Ozone IV Therapy: What is it and how does it work?

Ozone (O3 gas) is composed of 3 oxygen molecules. Ozone is that distinct odor we smell after a lightning strike- the main way that ozone is generated in nature. Since ozone is a very unstable molecule, it turns back into regular air very quickly. In the clinic we use an ozone machine that uses an electric charge to turn oxygen into pure ozone.

An ozone IV, also known as MAH (Major Autohemotherapy) consists of drawing your blood into an IV bag that has saline, calcium, and heparin (to prevent clots.) Ozone gas is injected into the blood, which turns the blood bright red. Ozone immediately turns into oxygen in the IV bag. Once the ozone has mixed with your blood, your blood is more oxygenated and several chemical/metabolic messenger switches are turned on. This blood is reintroduced into your body and takes the healing message to all your cells. Ozone IV therapy helps repair mitochondria, increase healing and decrease inflammation.

Ozone works by improving mitochondrial function, thus increasing energy, increasing antioxidant production, increasing detox capabilities, modulating the immune system, increasing circulation everywhere in the body, increasing oxygenation of blood, and reducing chronic inflammation.

Ozone IV therapy can be used for chronic fatigue, chronic illness, autoimmune diseases, acute illness (cold, flu, covid, infections), recovery from injuries, recovery from surgery, joint or tissue pain. Lyme disease and mold illness are conditions that can improve greatly from IV ozone.

Ozone can also be used for complications of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, mold illness, autoimmune conditions such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis, and many more. Ozone therapy is not a stand alone treatment for these conditions and is used as an adjunctive therapy.

IV Ozone therapy is extremely safe when used correctly. Blood tests to rule out G6PD (an inherited metabolic disorder) is recommended before starting ozone therapy. It is contraindicated in hyperthyroidism, the first trimester of pregnancy, and certain other medical conditions.

When used for chronic conditions, IV ozone therapy consists of an ozone IV 1-2 times a week for a series of 6-10 weeks at a time. Benefits begin to show up after the first IV but a series is best for lasting healing.

If IV ozone could help you but you would like to do something less invasive and cheaper, Minor Autohemotherapy involves drawing a few CCs of blood, ozonating it, and injecting the ozonated blood into a muscle. This has the same benefits as ozone IVs but is faster and less expensive.

Ozone Therapy: Ozone therapies use O3 gas to help the body heal. Ozone therapies include the following:

- Limb bagging (for skin conditions, wounds, or infections)

- Ozone injections (for trigger points, joint or muscle pain, and physical trauma)

- Ozone insufflation (using ozone gas in the rectum, ear canals, or sinuses to treat infections or chronic digestive disorders)

- Minor Autohemotherapy (ozonated blood injected into muscle to help healing and modulate inflammation)

- Major Auto Hemotherapy, (ozonated blood IVs to help with energy, inflammation, autoimmunity, and recovery from chronic conditions)

- Ozonated water to drink for digestive conditions

- Ozonated oil to apply topically for skin conditions
